The 20 Hour Thai Culture Course

TLS Language School is an approved educational facility who holds the educational license to conduct the 20 hour Thai Culture Course in accordance with the Ministry of Education Act B.E 2546 (2003). This act makes teaching a licensed profession, both for Thai and foreign nationals.
It is now mandatory for all foreigners that wish to teach in Thailand to take the 20 hour Thai Culture Course. There are no exceptions! The purpose of this course is to familiarize one with the general “ins and outs” of the Thai culture, and how to apply it in and out of the classroom. This class is a wonderful insight to the Thai lifestyle and customs, and after having taken it you will be glad you did. One must have the certificate of completion before the Ministry of Education will issue a teacher’s license or a work permit.

“The Teacher and Educational Personnel Council Act (BE 2546) stipulates that teacher profession shall be a regulated and licensed profession.
Thailand’s Teacher Council created the training program to equip foreign teachers teaching in schools in Thailand with knowledge and understanding of Thai culture and teacher professional code of ethics…Thus teaching as a licensed profession shall guarantee and provide protection for the public to obtain quality education as well as to develop and upgrade the teaching professional standards in the country”

Details of Testing and Evaluation of Knowledge for Practicing the Teaching Profession
“The Teachers Council of Thailand shall have the authority to certify professional Knowledge and experience, including expertise in the practice of the teaching profession (section9 (8)).
Teaching profession is a licensed profession under the Teachers and Educational Act B.E. 2546 (2003), and licensed profession practitioners shall conduct themselves in accordance with the professional standards and ethics as specified by the Teachers Council of Thailand (section 48)".
The professional standards include the standards of professional knowledge and experience. The Teachers Council of Thailand Board have specified that teachers shall have a minimum qualifications with a Bachelor’s Degree or any other educational qualification as accredited by The Teachers Council of Thailand, and shall have knowledge in the following 9 areas:-
1. Language and Technology for Teachers
2. Curriculum Development
3. Learning Management
4. Psychology for Teachers
5. Educational Measurement and Evaluation
6. Classroom Management
7. Educational Research
8. Educational Innovation and Information Technology
9. Teachership
The Examination papers: A total of four sets covering the nine subject above are:-
1. Set 1 Language and Technology for Teachers and Educational Innovation and Information Technology.
2. Set 2 Curriculum Development, Learning Management, and Classroom Management.
3. Set 3 Educational Measurement and Evaluation and Educational Research.
4. Set 4 Psychology for Teachers and Teachership.
These tests are conducted at the Ministry of Education twice per year.
Please Note that only degree holders can apply to do this testing without prior preparation course.
Non degree holders who wish to obtain a teaching license, must sign up and attend preparation courses in the subjects above to get a 3 year temporary Teaching Licence,
